This session will include:
A sharing of Jenika’s experiences working in Nepal with a slide presentation.
There will time for a Q&A following the discussion, including advice for those interested in working in this field.
A little bit about Jenika:
After completing a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology/German) at the University of Melbourne, Jenika pursued nursing to gain more life experience before entering social work. She discovered a passion for cancer nursing and palliative care, spending time volunteering in Benin, Africa, before completing her graduate year in Oncology, Haematology, and Palliative Care.
Jenika has since worked in palliative care across community, hospital, aged care, and hospice settings. From 1996 to 2007, she and her husband lived in Kathmandu, Nepal, where she contributed to nurse training, developed a community visiting service, and helped establish a palliative care training course. In 2018, she returned with donated syringe drivers, training nurses in their use—an initiative that continues today.
Currently, Jenika is a community palliative care nurse at Eastern Palliative Care in Melbourne and supports its education program. She recently took extended leave to assist with palliative care capacity building in Nepal. Jenika feels privileged to have had a rewarding career, using her skills to support those in need.
We thank Jenika for king the time to speak with our members on this unique topic and look forward to the conversations that will stem from this webinar.
